The Story of Iman Academy: A Journey Rooted in Faith and Learning
From a three-roomed home to a thriving academy
The venture started in a modest, three-roomed house down Peter’s Lane in Dehiwala, with just three young students—two of whom were the founders’ children, Ahmed and Abdullah Azim. The third was Hafsa Amry, the daughter of a family whom the founders met during their time in Saudi Arabia. Together with three dedicated educators, Iman Academy began its journey of alternative learning spaces, providing an environment that was more than just a school. It became a place where technology and Islamic values merged seamlessly, and where activities focused on enhancing child-centered learning.
In its first year, the school’s enrollment grew to 12 children. Each day was filled with excitement, as the small team of educators worked closely with the students, creating a learning atmosphere that was both dynamic and nurturing. Technology integration and a strong Islamic foundation were the highlights of the school’s approach, giving students the best of both worlds.

By its second year, the school had grown to 25 students, but the humble space in Peter’s Lane could no longer accommodate the growing demand as the years passed by. The school, originally known as Al Iman School, moved to a larger space on Watarapola Road, Mount Lavinia. This marked a new chapter in the school's journey.
Challenges came along the way, but with a dedicated and loving staff that bonded like a family, the team overcame each obstacle together. The founders’ vision continued to evolve, focusing not just on academic excellence but also on the spiritual and personal growth of each student. The school became a beacon of hope for parents who desired a holistic education for their children—one that would nurture both the mind and the soul.

As the years passed, Iman Academy flourished, and the founders’ own children completed their Advanced Level studies and ventured into the world alongside their peers. What started as a small initiative for three children grew into a beloved community asset, gifted to the wider community. The school remains a symbol of holistic education, providing the same care, vision, and nurturing environment that began with the founders' own family.
