Iman Academy Fund

Every year, Muslim families in the greater Colombo area spend over Rs. 1.5 billion on education. Yet, more than 90% of this amount flows out of our community strengthening institutions that were not built with our values, our vision, or our future in mind.

The question is no longer “Why don’t we have excellent Islamic schools?”
The real question is, how long will we delay taking responsibility for our own children’s future?

At the heart of this challenge is an opportunity: The Iman Academy Fund a decisive step toward building a purpose-built, future-focused learning space designed to nurture up to 1,500 students across all learning levels.

We are not just building classrooms. We are building the infrastructure of a resilient and morally grounded Muslim society.

What we are building: A learning space like no other

The Iman Academy campus will be established on 1–1.25 acres of land (approximately 160–200 perches) in Colombo, acquired at a market rate of Rs. 6 million per perch (approximately USD 20,000).
This will not be a repurposed building. It will be a purpose-built, modern learning space, crafted from the ground up to serve students aged 3+ to 18+, with 15 academic levels, and six parallel classes per level (three for boys, three for girls).
Each classroom will serve a maximum of 18 students, ensuring personalized, focused instruction.

At full capacity, the campus will support:

90 classrooms for academic delivery
Specialized spaces for science, technology, and skill-building
Two strength and endurance zones — one for younger students (ages 3–11) and another for older students (12+)
Library, IT labs, science laboratories, and creative studios
Cafeteria and multipurpose spaces for community bonding and nutrition
Indoor sports complex supporting basketball, badminton, and other physical education programs
Climbing walls and active play zones to promote mental and physical growth

Following modern educational architecture standards and international benchmarks, here is the projected spatial breakdown:

Estimated total built-up area: approx. 172,000+ sq. ft.

At a conservative construction rate of Rs. 22,500 per sq. ft. (approx. USD 75), the total estimated construction cost will exceed Rs. 3.9 billion. Combined with land acquisition, the entire project is estimated at Rs. 5 billion (USD 17 million).

By 2040, the Muslim community in Colombo will need 2,500+ new school seats every year. Without our own institutions, our families will be locked out of access, dignity, and opportunity. And no, it will not be due to discrimination. It will be because we failed to plan, to prepare, and to act.
Other communities have already built. They have sacrificed and invested. And rightfully, they prioritize their own children.
So must we.
