Events
At Iman Academy, our events are more than just calendar highlights- they are meaningful experiences that bring learning to life, strengthen community bonds, and nurture the spiritual, social, and emotional growth of our students. From faith-inspired gatherings to student-led initiatives, each event reflects our commitment to values, creativity, and purposeful engagement.

In a world where entrepreneurship and financial literacy are more critical than ever, Thajamu’ah offers a unique platform for young learners aged 14–16 to step into real-world experiences. Rooted in Islamic heritage and inspired by the tradition of communal gathering and goodness, Thajamu’ah fosters a vibrant space where students and community members from diverse backgrounds come together to collaborate, create, and grow.
Through this project, Imanian students develop essential 21st-century skills:
- Public Relations (PR) Skills: Crafting messaging and engaging audiences professionally.
- Financial Literacy and Budgeting: Using relevant software tools to plan and manage budgets effectively.
- Marketing and Design: Creating promotional materials and branding for their initiatives.
- Interpersonal Communication: Practicing negotiation, bargaining, and respectful engagement.
- Stakeholder Management: Building partnerships, understanding needs, and delivering value throughout project execution.
Thajamu’ah not only strengthens students’ academic and career readiness but also instills Islamic values of collaboration, fairness, integrity, and service to the community. It is a living example of how young Imanians transform learning into leadership, grounded in tradition, yet thriving in a dynamic world.
Each Ramadan, our Imanian boys step into a beautiful tradition that blends faith, teamwork, and culinary adventure. The Annual Boys’ Iftar Preparation and Gathering is a much-anticipated event where students, alongside their educators, come together to plan, prep, and present an iftar spread for over 100 guests, all while fasting.
Classrooms transform into buzzing kitchens as each class selects a dish, unravels recipes, explores ingredients, and works shoulder to shoulder to bring it to life. From managing budgets and minimizing waste to cleaning up every surface, students practice responsibility, patience, and perseverance with a generous side of laughter and lasting memories.
More than just food, this gathering is about barakah, brotherhood, and bonding. As they break their fast together and serve others, the boys learn that the spirit of Ramadan lies not just in abstaining, but in giving, sharing, and growing. Alhamdulillah, it’s a night they remember long after the plates are cleared.
The Imanian Ramadan Retreat: A Night of Sisterhood and Spiritual Growth
Organized entirely by the girls of Iman Academy’s Leaders’ League, the Imanian Ramadan Retreat is a unique, student-led overnight experience designed to uplift, unite, and inspire. Spanning 15 transformative hours, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 AM the next day, this annual gathering is a cherished tradition that brings together Imanian sisters in a space of reflection, joy, and deep connection with Allah.
The retreat opens with team-building activities that spark laughter and bonding. As the sun sets, the girls share iftar, pray in congregation, and welcome guest speakers who speak to the heart of Muslim girlhood; identity, strength, and sincerity in seeking Allah’s pleasure. This year, we were honored to host Sheikh Idris Kamisa (South Africa) virtually, who engaged the girls in a powerful, interactive session on the value and dignity of girlhood in Islam.
As the night deepens, the school backyard becomes a glowing circle of warmth and connection. The gathering around a blazing bonfire was indeed a highlight, a moment of reflection, storytelling, and sisterhood under the stars. Surrounded by flickering light and heartfelt words, students found comfort in shared silences and spiritual connection.
The night flows into remembrance (zikr majlis), Isha and Taraweeh prayers, and moments of joy and laughter. Though a short rest is scheduled (often joyfully skipped!), the early hours welcome Tahajjud in congregation, suhoor, and a beautiful wrap-up with Fajr, heartfelt dua, and quiet reflection.
More than an overnight program, the Imanian Ramadan Retreat teaches:
-
Leadership through organizing and hosting
-
Spiritual discipline through prayer, fasting, and dhikr
-
Sisterhood and empathy through shared moments
-
Time management and service through planning, preparation, and cleanup
As they reluctantly pack up and leave in the early morning light, the girls carry home not just the exhaustion of a sleepless night, but the glow of connection to each other, and to their Creator. Alhamdulillah, it’s a night that lives on in hearts long after Ramadan ends.
The Imanian Peace Walk: A Journey for Peace and Unity
On September 21st, 2023, the Imanian community came together for a powerful and inspiring event, The Imanian Peace Walk. In honour of International Peace Day, students of all ages stepped out in unity, walking several kilometers through the heart of Dehiwala town and back to school, carrying signs and banners that echoed messages of peace in English, Sinhala, and Tamil.
The colourful slogans and heartfelt expressions were more than just words, they were a call for harmony, understanding, and justice. The walk was a living example of Iman Academy’s commitment to global citizenship and its alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. It was a day of reflection, pride, and purpose, a reminder that peace begins with each of us, and together, we can create a more just and compassionate world.

Imanian Annual ReadRunner Challenge
The Imanian ReadRunner Challenge, also known as our annual Readathon, is a much-loved literacy event that brings the joy of reading to life across all age groups and both genders. Specially designed to expose students to a wide range of literary genres, the challenge encourages exploration, imagination, and growth through books.
At the heart of the challenge is the coveted ReadRunner Medal, awarded to every student who completes their reading goal within the set timeframe, celebrating not just speed, but consistency, reflection, and commitment.
Supporting this initiative is our very own digital library, thoughtfully compiled by Iman Academy educators using Google tools. This library gives students access to a wide range of genres and authors, both local and international, fostering a love for diverse voices in literature. As part of the challenge, students learn to review books through writing, audio recordings, or video reflections- building confidence in expression while expanding vocabulary and comprehension. They bring characters to life through role play activities, share insights, and develop the critical thinking skills that last far beyond the final page.More than just a student activity, ReadRunner also nurtures the parent-child reading bond, encouraging families to read together, discuss stories, and make memories, no matter the age or reading level.
Iman Star Awards Day
Our inaugural Iman Star Awards Day (2023) was a heartwarming and spiritually uplifting occasion that celebrated one of the most noble achievements; the memorization of the Qur'an. We were honored to welcome Sheikh Azhar, who graced the ceremony and personally badged the Imanians who completed memorizing Juzz Amma, marking a milestone of dedication, discipline, and love for the Qur'an.
The event featured beautiful Qirath recitations by students, girls and boys across different age groups, filling the hall with the sacred rhythm of divine words.
Speeches highlighting the tafsir of selected surahs added depth and meaning to the celebration, reminding all present of the relevance and beauty of Allah’s message. A powerful and emotional du’a led by Sheikh Azhar concluded the program, especially dedicated to the oppressed in Palestine, anchoring the event in both gratitude and global awareness. Among the shining stars, the youngest Imanian to complete Juzz Amma was just 6 years old, and the oldest, 15, proof that with sincerity and effort, the light of the Qur'an can enter any heart, at any age. Alhamdulillah, it was a day of honor, inspiration, and remembrance, one we pray continues for years to come.

Ramadan at Iman Academy
Ramadan at Iman Academy is not just a month, it is a deeply immersive journey that transforms hearts, habits, and homes. It’s a sacred time when thematic learning merges with soulful reflection, connecting students to the blessings and rituals of the holy month in meaningful, memorable ways.
From duas and diets to deeds and discipline, every element is woven together to help students strengthen their bond with their Rabb. The school atmosphere transforms, students arrive clad in Islamic attire, welcomed with warm salaams, a gentle dabbing of athar, and a spirit of reverence and joy.
Creative lapbook projects, spiritual journaling, and light-hearted games like foosball and carrom tournaments add balance and community cheer. In addition to student-led activities, we are honored each year to host visiting scholars and speakers who remind us of the blessings of Ramadan, encouraging the perfecting of salah, duas, and acts of kindness as the ultimate preparation for the year ahead. Ramadan at Iman Academy is a time of joy, awakening, and sincere striving, and its light carries far beyond the month itself, InshaAllah. Each year, a new theme anchors the experience, guiding reflections and projects across all age groups.
